Welcome to Gabriola's Very Own Crash Course Academy Website. Here you can find out about the courses that are being offered each 'semester', about fees, and how to register.
Dear Students, Instructors, and friends The Crash Course Academy is back! We have been busy thinking of ways to make the Crash Course Academy simpler and more successful, and we have a plan! Starting this summer, we will be offering courses again, based on this principle: - Crash courses come in three hour modules (in other words, half a day, a day, a day and a half etc.) If you are interested in teaching a course for the summer semester, go to the "Each a Course" page We are happy to be back and we look forward to hearing from you! Sincerely yours, Leah and Andreas

WHY TAKE A CRASH COURSE? - Do you want to learn about something that always seemed inaccessible or intimidating? - Do you have bits of information and want help to ‘connect the dots’? - Are you looking for a fresh perspective on your life, your relationships—or your bicycle, for that matter? - Is there a project that you need the skills to take on? - Do you want to connect with people in the community who share your interest? Invented in 2006 by Leah Hokanson and Andreas Kahre on Gabriola Island, the Crash Course Academy is a community-based organization with a mandate to help create connections between the knowledgeable and the curious, and anyone with the passion to learn or teach the basics. The CCA brings together experts in a variety of fields with those looking for an introduction to areas related to life skills, home and garden, the arts, island ecology, and more. Courses are between six and twenty hours in length and are offered for adults, for children, and, as ‘Mini Crash Courses’, for the really impatient. Follow the links on the left to find out who we are, what courses are being offered this month, and how to teach or take a crash course. We are always looking for ideas for new courses and how to improve what we do. This is our first ‘semester’, and we look forward to your feedback and suggestions.
